When it comes to meeting your Business Activity Statement (BAS) obligations, accuracy is everything. Lodging incorrect or incomplete statements with the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) can result in penalties, legal issues, and unnecessary stress for your business. That’s why it’s so important to ensure you’re working with a registered BAS agent.
Why registration matters
Not everyone who offers BAS services is qualified or legally allowed to do so. An unregistered preparer:
- does not have the required qualifications or experience
- cannot legally lodge BAS on behalf of a business
- exposes clients to the risk of errors, penalties and compliance issues.
In contrast, a registered BAS agent has the skills, qualifications, and professional standards required to give accurate advice and ensure your BAS is submitted correctly and on time.
How to check if your BAS agent is registered
There are two simple ways to confirm that your BAS agent is registered with the TPB:
- Search the TPB Register – The online TPB Register provides details of all registered tax practitioners and also notes if someone has been deregistered (including the reasons why).
- Look for the registered tax practitioner symbol – Registered BAS agents can display this symbol across their business materials, such as their website, email signature, brochures, or stationery.
If you can’t find your BAS agent on the TPB Register, or they don’t display the registered practitioner symbol, it’s a red flag.
Protect your business
Your BAS is more than just a form—it’s a critical part of your financial reporting and compliance. Because BAS can be due monthly, quarterly or annually, it’s essential that you work with a professional who understands your obligations and helps you avoid costly mistakes.
At Qubed Advisory, all our BAS services are delivered by qualified, registered BAS agents. We ensure your reporting is accurate, compliant, and tailored to your business needs.
